County Championships (2012)

Windsor wrapped up the final session of this year's county championships on Sunday coming away with two more individual gold medal winners and two relay victories. Overall, the squad was awarded the Dockery Trophy for Top Ladies Club, and came second only to a very strong Bracknell team on the men's side.

Oliver Leonard rose to the top of an experienced field in the men's 50m breaststroke by posting a time of 30.9secs. Moments later, Lucy Rigby won the girls' 50m breaststroke with a time of 35.3secs, almost a full second in front of her nearest competitor.

Windsor began the relay section of the event with a resounding victory in the boys 11 years and under 4x50m Freestyle Relay, in which the team of NimaithUkkash, Kai Furnnel-Brennan, Ben Quirke, and Matthew Burton posted a fantastic time of 2.06.7, setting a new age-group county record by three seconds and bettering the nearest competition by a further five.

Soon after, the same team demonstrated the breadth of their ability by winning the boys 11 years 4x50m Medley Relay in a time of 2.24.4, once again smashing the previous record by over two seconds and out-touching their closest rivals by half a pool-length.

Earlier in the session Windsor's Lily Glover, competing in the 100m Individual Medley, not only set a new meet record and age-group record for the 15/16 years age-group with a time of 1.06.08, but also broke the Women's Open county record.

Glover's younger teammate, Matthew Burton also set a new county age-group record in the boys' 10 years 50m Backstroke with a time of 35.7secs.

In other club news, following her terrific performance at the British Olympic Selection Trials earlier this month, Lucy Campbell has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Junior Open Water Championships later this year. Lucy and head coach Matt Heathcock will travel to Israel in June for the LEN Cup.
