Family fun in the pool this Christmas
Christmas is all about spending time with the family but why wait until the 25th December? Get in the Christmas spirit early and join your kids in the pool.
Swimming is a great way to spend time with the family; it’s an activity that suits all ages and abilities and the best way to bond with your children, older teenagers in particular, is by doing something they enjoy. Most parents will fulfil their parent duties and drop off their children at the swimming pool, some may even stay to watch, well why not give it a go yourself. It’s the perfect way to have some family time and a great opportunity to tone up before you pile on the pounds with the Christmas pudding.
Parents in the pool can ease the pressures of training and by playing swimming games; the children can feel more confident with each other. Swimming together helps build a bond; a bond with their parents and a bond with the rest of the club. Get the coaches and committee in the pool too and have fun making a splash. Just as you dig the board games out at Christmas, feel festive by trying some swimming pool games; it’s sure to improve team spirit too. Here are a few games that everyone loves.
- One of the more traditional activities is having races to the end of the pool. It gets the competitive juices flowing and plus its great exercise.
- Tag. One person has to chase everyone else in the hope of tagging them. If they manage to touch someone, then they become the chaser instead.
- Beach balls can be used in a variety of ways but they deflate, they’re big enough not to lose and can be used over.
- Handstand contests are always fun. This is mainly one for the older kids but it's an old favourite and everyone wants to be the last one hand-standing.
Swimming is a fun way to get fit and spend quality time with the family; playing games together can get you in the festive mind-set and build team spirit. Team building and varied sessions make swimming exciting and keep young swimmers interested.
