Masters & Seniors Excel at the British Gas ASA Nationals (2011)

Following on from our successes at Rushmore LC Masters and the SER SC Masters events, Windsor entered a team of eight to the British Gas ASA National Masters and Senior Age Group SC Championships and boy did we do well!

Of our original eight we lost one to injury, one to work commitments and gained a new recruit. So our final team was Katie Ambridge, Richard Bradford, Sasha (The Folder) Forster, Antonia Knowles, Robert Moran, John Munday and Stephan Weustner competing in four Age Groups (and two genders!).

We clearly enjoyed the event as our results speak for themselves, they are:-

THREE British Age Group Records and Gold medals for Katie in the 200 IM, 100 Fly and 200 Fly and a further Gold in the 200 Free

Three Silver medals; two for Katie in the 50 Fly & Free and one for Antonia in the 200 Fly

One Bronze medal for Antonia in the 50 Fly

And overall, Eighteen PB’s, inc. qualifying times for next years’ World Masters

These medals and PB’s were fuelled by a variety of carbohydrate intakes over the weekend, varying degrees of rest, recuperation and training, with everyone of course ensuring full hydration and focus before each race.

From the number of PB’s we achieved it is clear that we enjoy competing as a team and on the major stage. So if anyone else wants to join the Seniors and Masters you would be most welcome. Kids do you think your parents should join, because John is getting lonely as the only wrinkly?

We also need a Coach to guide us to greater success; three sessions a week, some preparation and eight or so meets a year, including next years’ World Championships. Are you that person?

Finally, a massive “Thank You” to our supporters during the event, namely Becky, Jamie, Lee, Michelle & Auntie Knowles, who provided a perfect balance of admonishment and encouragement, and not forgetting Sasha for the admin and the ever present and useful folder.

The future is Red, Blue and White (and Older!)
