Trophy triumph for Windsor Swimming Club at county championships
Windsor Swimming Club (WSC) moved from strength to strength over the four days of the Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire County Championships. In the end Windsor's energised and focussed young swimmers brought back home for the third time the coveted Dockery Trophy for the overall Best Girls' performance in any club in the Championship having won it for two consecutive years in 2011 and 12. For the first time in the Club's 105 year history, the Boys also brought home the equivalent Ellen Trophy showing the depth and breadth of talent at Windsor.
Before the final session started WSC had bagged 12 County Championships - Albert Karavis ( 16years - 400m Freestyle), Alex Farrell (18 years - 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke), Lily Glover (17 years - 200m Butterfly), Lucy Campbell (17 years - 200, 400, 800m Freestyle; 100, 200m Backstroke; 400m Individual Medley), Yusuke Legard (17 years – 100m Freestyle) and Sam Straughan (20 years - 200m backstroke) – breaking 5 Age Group Records along the way. Further Age Group Records went to two talented 12 year olds - Moritz Hoogers (50m Backstroke) and Matthew Burton (100m IM.)
In total 55 Windsor Swimmers qualified for Individual swims and 97% achieved Personal Best Times. An additional 10 Swimmers came along to experience the final session of relays and added further depth to the team. Of sixteen relays over the Championships Windsor took Gold medals in nine (Mens, Youths and BAGCAT Boys both Freestyle and IM; Womens' Freestyle; Girls Youth Freestyle and IM). The Women brought home an additional Silver medal in the IM and the 11/under Boys achieved well deserved Bronze medals in both the Freestyle and IM Relays.
"It's a very strong foundation" said Matthew Heathcock, Head Coach as he prepares the team for Scottish Championships and Commonwealth Trials in Glasgow in April.C
