Windsor Success at SE Regional Championships 2012

Returning to Crawley's K2 Center for the final time this season Windsor's leading young swimmers competed against the strongest teams in the area for the South-East Region Age Group Championships 2012.

To begin, Matthew Burton and Moritz Hoogers shared top honors in the boys' 10 years age-group 200m Freestyle. Burton placed first with a time 2.28.3, and Hoogers touched second in a time of 2.31.1.

Soon after, teammates Rebecca Dutfield and Nicole Ryan tested their endurance in the girls' 14 years 400m Freestyle. Dutfield took gold with a very impressive time of 4.28.1, while Ryan battled hard in a competitive field to place fifth in a time of 4.34.8. Most notably however, both times earn the girls qualification for this summer's National Championships.

On the second day of racing Hoogers and Burton repeated their feat in the 200m Individual Medley by sharing the podium, though this time in reverse. Hoogers claimed victory with a time of 2.54.6, and Burton rode the wave to claim silver in a time of 2.56.2. What's more, during Sunday's events Burton took another silver medal back to Windsor for the 200m Butterfly.

Clearly boosted by her earlier performance, Dutfield switched from middle-distance to longer-distance races by swimming in the girls' 800m Freestyle. Amazingly, she posted yet another national qualifying time of 9.15.3, which overtook her previous personal-best by over nine seconds, and earned her the gold medal by a margin of almost eleven.

Windsor's successes extended well beyond only a handful of swimmers, however. Nimath Ukkash continues to perfect the ability of competing in almost every event of each competition, notching up two fourth-place finishes in the boys' 11 years 200m IM and 100m Backstroke. Ben Goldfinch, also competing in a number of events, placed fifth in the 200m Butterfly and 400m IM.

Lastly, 'Bagcat' scores were calculated according to the variety and speed of each swimmer's events. Unsurprisingly, Matthew Burton and Mortiz Hoogers again shared first and second place respectively for the 10 years age-group following their succession of podium finishes, and Rebecca Dutfield and Nicole Ryan placed fourth and fifth overall in the 14 years age-group.
