Windsor Swimming Club Achievements
Windsor Swimming Club is the home of past and current County, Regional and National Champions; British Age Group and Senior British Record Holders; Welsh and Scottish Age Group Record Holders and International Gold and Silver Medallists.
Most recently, in 2012, seven of Windsor's swimmers qualified for the Olympic Trials which took place at the Olympic Aquatic Centre, Stratford. You can access the biographies of Simon Burnett, Ian Hulme, Robert Iddiols, Katherine Ambridge, Oliver Leonard, Lily Glover and Lucy Campbell on the British Swimming website.
In May 2012 Matt Heathcock (Head Coach) was selected to become part of the GB Coaching Team that will accompany a group of GB Open Water Swimmers, including Windsor's Lucy Campbell and World Champion Keri-Anne Payne to compete in the first leg of the Len Cup in Eilat, Israel.
2012 Berkshire and South Bucks County Championships has seen the Club perform its best, improving not only on its 2011 medal count but more importantly seeing more PB's than ever before through all age groups. This performance resulted in the coveted Dockery Trophy for Top Female Club returning to Windsor for the second year running.
We are proud of our Teaching and Early Development Programme that has consistently secured a place in the top 3 clubs in the area in the Thames Valley League coming first more often than not over the past 15 years. We have also placed ourselves in the top 8 clubs in the Milton Keynes League since we joined it in 2007.
Having maintained a steady presence in the South Premier Division of the National Arena League for over 10 years, for the first time ever in the club's 103 year history, the 2011 season saw Windsor qualifying for the National Arena League B Finals in Ponds Forge, Sheffield. Our collaboration with Slough and Eton Dolphins ensures that two teams of swimmers from the area (72 total) now have the exciting experience of swimming in the National Arena League.
We are delighted to also have strong representation at Masters & Seniors events around the UK and around the world. In 2008 John Knowles represented Windsor at the FINA Worlds Championships in Australia where he claimed a runner up medal in the 100m Freestyle. More recently in 2011 the team had huge success at the British Gas ASA National Championships securing 4 gold medals, 3 silver and 1 bronze with Katherine Ambridge also achieving 3 British records.
We are also proud of our on-going connection to Electric Eels – the only Down Syndrome Competitive Club in the area and many of Windsor's older swimmers are involved as active volunteers. The Electric Eels swimmers compete in National Disability Galas and Special Olympic competitions.
