World Junior Open Water Championships
Lucy Campbell gained valuable international experience as one of a Great Britain team of three at the first FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships in Welland, Ontario, Canada. WSC Head Coach Matt Heathcock was also selected to attend as a GB Coach at this inaugural event, held in a rowing lake near Niagara.
Bradley Lynch (City of Birmingham SC), Caleb Hughes (Hatfield SC) and Lucy Campbell (Windsor SC) contested four events between them including the Junior Team event.
Bradley came closest to the podium with a fourth place finish in the Youth Boys 5km, just over 40secs behind the winner.
Lucy gave a strong performance in the Girls 5k race to finish the course in eighth overall in a time of 1.00.32. After starting strongly Lucy was up with the leading pack in the field of 37 before she lost momentum in the finishing straight when struggling with a hat problem, to finish 27 seconds behind the winner.
In the Junior Boys 7.5k (17-18) Caleb finished 12th out of 43. All three athletes came together for the Team Event 3k and stayed together throughout the race and finished strongly to finish 13th in a combined time of 1.48.13.
