Beginners is our entry level group and is comprised of 3 progressive levels for swimmers typically aged 4 to 6 years of age. The sessions are taught in a water depth of 0.8m over 12.5m to build confidence and allow swimmers to focus on core skill development.  

Competitive skills are introduced from the start, with swimmers taught the importance of a streamlined position, progression from push and glide into their full stroke, and finishing on their front and back with correct hand position. 

Level One

The focus of this group is developing and maintaining good body position and in-water skills to progress their understanding of correct breathing, leg kick, and arm action.  

Beginners One swims once a week for 30 minutes. The group is open to swimmers aged 4 to 5 who have completed Swim England Stage 3.  


Level Two

This group continues to build on the skills gained in Beginners One, focusing on increasing the distance they can swim with correct body position and leg and arm action.

Starting from a streamlined position is introduced along with rhythmic bilateral breathing.

Beginners Two swim once per week for 40 minutes and is open to swimmers who have completed Swim England Stage 4 and are aged 4 to 5.


Level Three

In this group, swimmers progress to completing 12.5m of Front Crawl, Backstroke, and Breaststroke with correct leg and arm action, timing, and breathing technique, and 12.5m of dolphin kick.   Swimmers also begin the transition to deep water.

Competitive skills of push and glide with the transition into full strokes, correct hand position for Front Crawl, Breaststroke, and Backstroke finishes, and initial elements of tumble turns are introduced.

Beginners Three swims once per week for 40 minutes and is open to swimmers who have completed Swim England Stage 5 and are aged 5 to 6 years old.
